Five Saw films later and finally we’re getting a little behind-the-scenes goodies from the director! Saw VI helmer Kevin Greutert has updated his official blog with a bunch of goodies, ranging from behind-the-scenes photos to casting. He reveals that Shauna MacDonald, Devon Bostick, Marty Moreau, Karen Cliche, Shawn Mathieson, Melanie Scrofano, James Gilbert, Shawn Ahmed, Janelle Hutchison, Gerry Mendicino, Caroline Cave and Ginger Busch have ALL joined the cast (good-freakin’-lord) and prepared to take on Jigsaw’s latest game come October 23rd.

Written once again by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, Costas Mandylor, Mark Rolston, Betsy Russell, Peter Outerbridge, Tobin Bell, Tanedra Howard, Shawnee Smith and James Van Patten also star.

Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw’s legacy. However, when the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw’s grand scheme is finally understood. (via Bloody Disgusting)

Amanda's Back for Saw 6!

Twisted Pictures producer Mark Burg dropped some big Saw-related news today: "Shawnee Smith [as Amanda] is in Saw VI. There are several new characters. Also, this movie is a lot more violent than the previous five. Lastly, we have traps that pit victims against each other like the opening of Saw V. Could be the best script yet!"

Kevin Greutert is at the helm of this entry which is said to begin lensing in Toronto on March 30th. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton penned the script. Plot details have not been revealed at the time of this writing

Saw 6 Movie in October 2009

Saw 5 brought some incredible revelations. And even if the disdainful critics spit on the movie franchise fans know better and the Saw movies are still performing quite well in theaters.

I'd even say that the Saw movies have become part of a tradition: hard to imagine Halloween with a Saw movie and Jigsaw's traps!

So, I'm quite glad that Lionsgate confirmed Saw 6. The movie Saw VI should be released on October 23, 2009.

A bit sad that Director David Hackl is handing over to Kevin Greutert (that's him on the pic). But I don't worry for the continuity of the Saw movie franchise because Kevin Greutert was editor on every Saw movie to date: so he isn't a newcomer, and will respect the previous Saw movies. Also Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, who wrote Saws 4 and 5, are working on the Saw 6 screenplay.

In Saw 6, Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) will still be taunting us beyond death. And his twisted disciple Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) shall be there too. Both Tobin Bell and Costas Mandylor have indeed signed for the sixth opus of Saw.

No hint about the plot yet. But rumors are that the fate of Dr Gordon (Cary Elwes) from Saw 1 could be revealed in Saw VI.

Does he feel like being Jigsaw for real sometimes? A bit Scary when you think about it...

Saw V Movie Review

Despite all the negative reviews that I have been seeing around, I have to say that this was a great entry in the Saw series. Saw V begins where Saw III/IV left off (those two taking place at the same time and all). Agent Strahm sets out to put an end to the whole Jigsaw mystery. He knows there is something suspicious about Hoffman and that he has some secrets that connect him to Jigsaw, while Hoffman is trying to rid the evidence and people who may spoil his reputation and figure out his involvement. All the while there is a group of five people trapped in a game of their own who must work together and vie to be the last one alive.

Saw V carries out another very intriguing story and it creates constant suspense. Although there are several parts that seem to be predictable, it all isn’t as it seems. The acting in this film was fine; the cast was believable and did exactly what they were supposed to do, entertain and make us fear for them. Having said that the characters in the group trap were not all the most developed characters, but I still felt some empathy for them in some scenes. I think that there should have been more of those characters and their game in the film. The one complaint I had about the characters was not the way they acted, but whom the writers didn’t include. Amanda didn’t have a role in it, and although she wasn’t in the fourth either, I was hoping she would somehow make a return.

The film is full of flashbacks, some about how Hoffman became an apprentice, which is a really absorbing story. The film also once again shows us some of the ways the different traps were set-up, which is always really cool. We also got a more background information on a few characters from the previous films.

When it was all over I walked out very impressed. I was excited to see it and when I saw negative reviews I lost some excitement. Needless to say I was very satisfied with the film. Obviously do not watch the film if you have missed any of the previous instalments, especially III and IV, you will be lost, although this is more straightforward than Saw IV. This is also a better movie than Saw IV in my opinion. It was intriguing, intense, gory enough, had cool flashbacks, neat traps and a good ending, despite the lack of a huge twist. I highly recommend this film to horror fans, and especially Saw fans, it was very well done and the good outweighs the bad most certainly.

First of all I just want to say that I am a huge fan of the SAW franchise, and come every October I can’t wait for the next installment, but I have to admit I was a tad disappointed this time around. Also, unless you have a good memory, I don’t, I’d suggest watching the last couple again, SAW V has a lot of flashbacks, flash forwards, and although it does come together towards the end, up until that point you may be scratching your head until it bleeds.

I recall some comments previously about the pendulum in the trailer scene and how it seemed lame, but I have to tell you it’s one of the better kills this time around, and a great way to open the film.

The story picks up where SAW III and IV left off, confused already? and revolves around Agent Strahm (Scott Paterson), managing a nifty escape from one of Jigsaw’s traps, one of the better and clever moments of the film, and his continuing investigation. Seems like Jigsaw may have another disciple besides Amanda in his flock as the crimes seem to be continuing. Throw in a number of flashbacks from the earlier films, 5 strangers who must work “together” to survive some ingenious booby traps, and a cat and mouse chase ending and you have your nifty little story. And this is where it falters a bit. I thought this was a bit to plot heavy and a few of the games all relied on a similar outcome if they failed, which was mediocre at best. But that’s not to say there weren’t some good ones too, think band saw, and the ending, although you saw it coming a mile away, was a hoot! I give credit to the writers for at least churning out another decent sequel where so much of them these days are pure train wrecks. Overall I’d have to recommend it, although I would’ve liked to have seen some better games and bloody outcomes, but it was 88 minutes of thrilling fun

SAW 5 Cast, Shooting in April

SAW is a great franchise. The studio wins and we as fans for the most part win. Its cheap to produce, it delivers the goods that fans want and hence everyone wins. Today from one of my insiders who wont be named we have a casting update on SAW 5. It will begin shooting in April she tells me. Will we have it in time for October? Perhaps! Still no word on the script but I am sure we will know soon enough.

Production Charts have listed the cast already as being Tobin Bell, Scott Patterson ( Agent Strahm ) and Costas Mandylor ( Hoffman ). I think this one will be a sequel with flashbacks just like SAW 4 in order to incorporate dead characters including Tobin Bell who played Jigsaw!

Recalling the heyday of slasher cinema when studios Paramount and New Line were churning out Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street sequels year after year, Twisted Pictures will not clean and sheathe their production blade once Saw IV (opening Oct. 26th) massacres audiences this month. Without interruption, producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules are moving on to Saw V for 2008. And, as we told you here, production designer-turned-director, David Hackl, is working closely with Saw IV scribes Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton on fleshing out the next chapter.

Darren Bousman (pictured) is also, "talking to David about the story," says the director of installments two through four. "We've been throwing it around. At this point, it looks like I'll be shooting [the Scanners remake] at the same time here in Toronto. I'm sure I'll oversee the Saw V script as James [Wan] and Leigh [Whannell] have done with parts two and three."

Welcomed into the "Saw" franchise with 2005's chapter, Canadian native Hackl tells Shock, "We have about a week to write the outline, then the script by the end of the month. We're really just throwing down the ideas now and it's coming together quickly," he says with a modicum of exuberance. "I've been with Darren on all of [the sequels], we've always arrived just before Christmas with a script that needed a lot of shakedown but, before shooting, [the script] is really tight. Right until the last days of filming we're always changing things and adjusting things just seeing what works as the story unfolds and I think that's why people like them - because we never let them rest. We don't go into pre-production with a white script and say, 'That's it no changes.' We push it so there's no holes."

A fifth movie has been decided for the Saw movie series. Saw 5 aims mainly at core fans: there's nothing to really justify a new Saw film...

But well, Saw films are not linear. Instead of going from present into future the plot of Saw is jumping back and forth along the time line. they jump all over the place. Characters who may have died a previous film can come back in the following one for scenes.

Besides some details still keep their mystery after the four fist movies. It may be relevant to explain thm to fans.

So fans rejoice because all this lead to Saw V, and as we said, because the plot is not linear, to the come back of Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) from the dead.

The plot of Saw 5 has not yet been revealed. But some hints here and there may help to sketch out the plot.

So far what we know about Saw 5:

- Saw V will explain what happened to Corbett, the daughter of Lynn Denlon and Jeff Reinhart, following the conclusion of Saw 3 that left her in danger. (Patrick Melton in a interview with IGN)

- The origins of Billy the puppet and his red tricycle would be further explained after having the story's roots planted in Saw 4. In an other interview Tobin Bell teased that he would not be surprised if the character of Cecil made a reappearance, and that the pieces of flesh taken from the victims in the form of a jigsaw puzzle might be explained.

- According to director David Hackl, one trap can potentially kill the actor meant to be placed in it, and so paramedics will be standing by while filming; Hackl joked that the trap would truly test the actor, just like Jigsaw tests his victims.

- In the Saw IV DVD commentary, Darren Lynn Bousman stated that the glass box trap, which was originally planned to be used - but only seen - in Saw IV, will be further explored in Saw 5.

Ok, maybe there is much more to develop in Saw 5 than I first thought!
